The Scam Experience Shared on Instagram
A Gurugram resident, Pranay Kapoor, recently exposed a tyre puncture scam happening at some petrol pump tyre shops. He posted a video on Instagram titled "Got Scammed at a Petrol Pump Tyre Shop," sharing his ordeal and warning others.
How the Scam Unfolded
While driving, Mr. Kapoor noticed a warning light indicating a flat tyre. At the nearest petrol station, a staff member confirmed the flat tyre and insisted it needed to be removed for a thorough check. The worker sprayed soapy water and brushed the tyre surface, then removed a visible screw. However, he claimed there were four punctures requiring costly mushroom patches.
Expert Technician Reveals the Truth
Instead of agreeing to the repair, Mr. Kapoor took the tyre to a professional repair shop. The technician found only one genuine puncture and explained that the other punctures were likely created by the petrol pump worker using a thorn-like tool to inflate repair costs.
The Costly Outcome and Warning
Mr. Kapoor had to replace the tyre entirely, spending Rs 8,000. He urged viewers not to make the same expensive mistake and encouraged sharing the video to raise awareness.
Public Reaction and Advice
Many internet users shared similar experiences and expressed shock. Some advised staying alert during tyre repairs and closely monitoring the process to avoid scams.
