A Bengaluru resident recently became the victim of a deceptive credit card scam that resulted in a loss of ₹2.8 crore. The man was lured in by a seemingly attractive offer: a free mobile phone in exchange for availing certain credit card benefits. The offer appeared legitimate, with the scammer presenting it as a special promotion through a reputable financial institution.

Trusting the deal, the man accepted the offer and provided personal information, including bank details, to secure the free phone. However, as the scam progressed, he found himself pressured to make a series of payments and investments, all under the guise of unlocking additional benefits linked to the credit card. Unaware that he was being duped, the man continued transferring large sums of money.

It was only after a considerable amount had been lost that the victim realized the entire offer was a well-planned scam. The scammers, who initially promised a free phone, had instead exploited the man’s trust, causing him a devastating financial blow.

This case highlights the dangers of too-good-to-be-true offers and the importance of thoroughly verifying any promotions that seem suspicious. Scammers are increasingly using attractive incentives to exploit unsuspecting individuals, making it crucial to remain cautious when approached with unsolicited offers.
